Winter Break is Unproductive for The Author

CAPTION: It's a cute, sad, irrelevant penguin.
There are moments where the world feels utterly silent and without distraction, and melodramatic thoughts seem unavoidable. Maybe it's a tragic movie scene kicking in? This (lightly edited in the present) poem was conceived one of those times, likely a chilly evening where I had nothing to do except run my mind. This piece is also heavily inspired by a poem called "Song" by Adrienne Rich, which I like for its calm, rhythmic, and powerful language. Life is made of moments, but they only become life when put together.
Sometimes I feel lonely
alone and so lonely
like a starved thief
in the gilded halls of the breathing
Life can be smooth and silent
like a soaring plane, so silent
and lonely along the horizons.
Sometimes i am lonely
Sometimes i am alive
Sometimes when i am sleeping
silent, i like to think
perhaps things get better
by getting much worse
like a plane descending from dark air
that faces evening glare.
